Thanksgiving break can be so annoying. We have so much homework and it stresses me out the entire break. I wish we could have a whole break with no homework. But I guess that is just too much to ask for. I get that we need to keep our minds refreshed sometimes but we get so much homework it does so much more than that.        Thanksgiving is also just not my favorite holiday in general. We have to all just sit together and eat and it is so boring. Thursday was definitely my least favorite day of the break. It isn't my moms favorite holiday because eating food we don't especially like isnt our favorite pastime. So this holiday gets on my nerves.

LOTF thesis

Sanity in the island deteriorates due to Jacks influence and grasp on popular opinion      Jack was never the most mentally sound on the island but he always had a way with popular opinion.  A fire! Make a fire!" At once half the boys were on their feet. Jack clamored among them, the conch forgotten. "Come on! Follow me!" The space under the palm trees was full of noise and movement. Ralph was on his feet too, shouting for quiet, but no one heard him. All at once the crowd swayed toward the island and was gone—following Jack."- Chapter 2 page 38. This quote shows how Jack has influence on the popular opinion on the island and people follow him.

LOTF given passage page 91

In this passage, Jack says "Bollocks to the rules." Ralph tries to tell him that the ruled are all that they have but he is more interested in causing chaos. This goes along with the trend of Ralph trying to maintain order and Jack trying to cause chaos. This trend is even more evident when they split up and Ralph's group thrives under order and Jack rises to power and maintains it through the creation of chaos.      This passage also mentions how the lawful word was slipping away and this became very evident. At the beginning of the book Ralph was decided as a leader and the conch represented the unity that they had. Then fear crept its way in in the form of the beast. Jack started using this fear to try and make his way to leader and him and his followers kept making progressively worse jokes about the littluns. They also started getting progressively more violent until they actually killed someone. This describes the big trends in Lord of the Flies.

Symbolism

Joseph was being dragged along the sidewalks after the people decided he was to be lynched. He was accused of murdering someone that he knows he never even touched but there was nothing he could do about it. He was hung from a tree as the people cheered feeling that justice had been done. The crowd dissipated and came back in an hour to an empty noose swinging like a pendulum from the tree. People claimed to have fleeting glimpses of Joseph running around the town. The people were plagued with the fear of being haunted and pretended like it never happened.      Joseph is supposed to have symbolized Jesus in the story of his death and resurrection.  Jesus had been crucified and his dead body sealed in a tomb. One day when they came back to check on him he was gone. People claimed that they had seen him.

The past few basketball seasons for LSU have been pitiful. That is why I was so excited when Will Wade was hired for the head coaching job. This makes me feel like it is inevitable that we will soon be good. Maybe in two years maybe in 5. Ben and I would go to the LSU basketball games even when we were bad such as last year. Now that we have landed some great recruits, it is time to muse the possibilities of us being a championship team in the near future.      I am looking forward to this basketball season alot more now as we are going to be a lot better. The first game is this Friday and we can't wait. I especially can't wait for the SEC opener against Kentucky which is always really hype and fun. I can't wait for this season as a whole.

LOTF reading response

In Lord of the Flies, everything seems to be progressively getting worse. When they showed up on the island everyone thought that they were going to have fun and be friends and the conch would help them maintain everything. Now there is violence among the group. There is dissension into separate groups. No one cares about the rules of the conch anymore. The recognition of littluns is also deteriorating.      Jack in particular has completely lost all respect for order and for the conch and is really the reason for all of the things above. He always takes the conch from people or he speaks without it. He doesn't care about the rules and said "Bollocks to the rules." Jack and Piggy's relationship has gotten worse and turned violent when Jack broke his glasses and attacked him. Jack also jokes about the killing of the littluns and his jokes have gotten progressively worse over time. Jack seems to be bent on ruining their chances of survival.
