March Madness

March Madness is my favorite part of the basketball season and is probably my favorite way that any sports season is ended. March Madness is the NCAA tournament that has 64 teams and 6 different rounds. This tournament is always very fun to watch and it is fun to pick the brackets for who you think is going to win. This is something I have been doing every year for a while. I am usually pretty good at this but this has been my worst year in a while.

This years tournament has had more upsets than I have ever seen. The most shocking of which made history when the 16 seeded UMBC beat Virginia the overall 1 seed.  This also happened to be who I had picked to win the tournament and my bracket was already done for before the second round. Then there is also Loyola Chicago who has made it into the final 4 tied for the highest seed to make it there. This was overall no ones year for picking a bracket.

  1. I also enjoy picking brackets, but I just lost my champion, Duke, so this year's ride is over for me. I agree that this was nobody's year for picking the perfect bracket because of all the upsets. Although my bracket along with many other were ruined early, this has definitely been one of the most exciting March Madness tournaments in a while.

Semester reflection

This semester I have learned multiple things. The first of those is that you have to get a lot of sleep every night. You feel so much better in the morning so you can get to school on time. It also helps you to pay attention in class more and remember assignments which leads to better grades.        The second thing that I learned is that you have to check the calendar every night even when you are 99% sure that there is nothing you don't know about assignments. That brought my grade down a ton especially in Spanish. I lost many points in classes and that will not be happening during the second semester.      The most important thing that I have learned in the first semester is that time management is very important. Teachers in high school do not need to monitor everything you do to make sure you are on task. If you do not manage your time in class then you have more homework and you have no one to blame but yourself. ...

Research update

My research topic for this project is the impact of Christopher Columbus. At first it was very hard to find the kind of information I was looking for but then I continued to find better articles that were more useful to my cause.  Ever since then everything has been going pretty smoothly. The annotated bibliography was very easy to do and it helped me analyze how I am going to answer my research question and what articles I am going to use to back up my answer.        I am still sort of nervous about the notecards but as I start to do them it will get easier. But having  just done three it is pretty easy to do considering the fact that I found some sources for information that I need. The research went well and the organization is still a bit stressful yet it is very easy.

Gun control

I am responding to a Newsday article written by Justin Haskins responding to the Las Vegas shooting and on the issue of gun control. Haskins makes the claim that strict gun laws will not work in this country as they already do not work. He also wants to explain why this will not work    " the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, a group that supports enhancing gun-control laws, gave in its recent gun-control report card “F” grades (for having lax gun laws) to five of the six states that have the lowest homicide rates"(Haskins). Haskins points out here that there is correlation between having gun laws that aren't strict and having low homicide rates. He also points out that the six states of Arkansas, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, Alaska, and West Virginia are the only states that have 50% of households that own firearms. He points out that  these states are among the top ranked for having the lowest homicide rates. He discusses how the statistics from cities that have ver...
